Into a New World!!!!!!

In a few days from now, I will be, for the first time in my life, stepping into an arena where tons and tons of people are earning a living and another ton is waiting to get into it. We have been reading all these years in the text books about what is happening in this arena and what would our likely responsibilities be. Yes. I am talking about the corporate world.

I sat down near the balcony of my house only to reminisce my good old school days when teachers used to say “One day, you would all be holding good positions in your office” I still remember. It was way back when I was in the fourth grade. And hurray!!! Time has flown so rapidly. I am now poised to work my way through the corporate ladder to the top and say “I am now holding a good position in my office”.

Rukhiye Saab!!! I have not gone that far. I am still (not even) in the first step of the ladder. In a few days time, I would enter into the corporate world as a part of my summer internship. Never before in my life have I ever entered into a corporate office (to work for the organization of course!!!). This is making me very anxious and nervous all throughout the day. My mind is not getting into the comfort zone even if I pacify myself by saying ”It’s just another place where you will work”.

In fact on a lighter side, I was able to recollect some of the HR concepts read in the class by analyzing myself on my behavior in that past few days!!! The curiosity and restlessness to get into my office makes me sit in the edge of my seat. It is something like gushing water being stopped by closing the pipe with a cork. When the cork is opened, the water would flow out of the pipe at a great pace. Whether the pace would be maintained or not would depend on the amount of water in the tank (Thrust. I am a bit weak in physics!!!).

Similarly in my case, the cork would be opened in a few days time allowing me to enter the corporate office. I would also start (the so called) “working” with all the energy and exuberance in me. Maintaining this initial enthu will depend on various factors like my interest in the job, my perception about workplace, peer group, blah blah etc. Ah….. I sincerely hope that I make the best use of my first opportunity to work alongside experienced corporate people. Lets see…….
